How a drive works

  1. Your phone pings. Paired with your MeshCore radio, MeshSonar sends a short ping on the #wardriving channel as you drive.
  2. Repeaters echo it. Any repeater that hears the ping repeats it. For about 6 seconds your radio listens for those echoes and notes which repeater it heard, and how strongly (SNR).
  3. The app records who heard you. Each ping becomes a point: where you were and which repeaters answered, or that none did. "Heard nothing" is data too.
  4. This site maps it. Uploaded pings are summed into squares of about 220 m on the coverage map and checked against the model.
A phone and radio send a ping; two repeaters in range echo it back, a third out of range does not.youheard youheard youout of range

Set up in four steps

  1. Install

Install MeshSonar on your phone from meshsonar.com/app.

  2. Pair your radio

Turn on your MeshCore companion radio and pair it over Bluetooth in the app. Join the #wardriving channel.

  3. Get a driver key

Sign in here and create a driver key on Devices and keys, then enter it in the app. Or request a key from inside the app.

  4. Drive

Start a drive and go. Every ping is saved on the phone first and uploaded when you have signal, so nothing is lost in a dead zone.
